In the 80’s and early 90’s I worked for law firms. At the first firm I began in the filing room and worked my way up to lead financial administrator. The firm was very supportive and sponsored my paralegal schooling. I learned Business Law and took accounting due to the firm’s focus and client needs. As a result of both my education and employment I learned I enjoyed business administration and was given the opportunity to advance in that direction. I became proficient in billing, accounts receivable and accounts payable, including payroll.

When my boss was contacted by an Executive Recruiter, I was encouraged to advance my career. I accepted the job with a smaller firm as the Office Administrator. The firm practiced in local government, water law and special districts. I was at this firm when TABOR passed and the law became a central focus at the firm.

Many personal factors led to my decision to go into police work and I left the firm to attend the police academy. After graduation I was hired by Lafayette PD and after a few years work and gaining valuable experience I was hired by Longmont PD.

I spent 20 years in Longmont, first in patrol then as a detective. I was a Persons Crimes Detective
specializing in sexual assault and crimes against the at-risk community. This included child victims, people with physical or cognitive disabilities and the elderly. I managed a team that managed the registration and house checks of sex offenders. I taught classes and presented information to officers and groups associated and involved with law
enforcement. I handled many large cases including two that made national news. 

I retired from Longmont in early 2017 to open a bed and breakfast in North Carolina. As part of small business ownership, I wrote my business plan, obtained a loan for renovations, handled the books, marketing, food preparation, cleaning, code compliance and community outreach. Unfortunately, 2020 was not a good year, especially for people in travel and tourism. I sold the Inn to a multi-generational family and came back to Colorado in 2021. 

I tried to be retired, but civil service pensions are not what tv portrays, so I entered the job market again. I currently work for D6 Schools as a Paraprofessional in the autism program. Once again I found myself involved with people needing care and understanding.
